Friday Musings—02/02/24

I’m adding a new section to the newsletter, i.e. the positive news corner! There's so much that’s wrong with the world—wars, crimes, natural and man-made catastrophes, corruption... you name it. However, there’s also a lot of good being done. If we train our brains to seek out and focus on the positives, in time, we will feel and become more positive overall. So I invite you to take some time each week to share something uplifting with the community. It can be something you’ve read in the papers, but it could also be a personal win (no win is too small!). You can share your good news as a comment or email it to me to be featured in one of the upcoming newsletters 😃
Cool stuff 😎
"Reclaim your brain" Week 1 – As I've mentioned, I've joined a challenge that promises to help you break your bad phone habits. The main takeaway from week one was to realize just how much time we're spending on our phones. We think we know, but we really don't. If you want a wake-up call as well, go to your phone's settings and look at your screen time; multiply that number by 365 and divide it by 24; that's how many full days a year you are spending on your phone. In my case, the daily average screen time was 2.1 hours, which amounts to 32 days in a year! Granted, some of that was listening to podcasts or music, and calling my mom, but still... Just how much could we accomplish if we allocated even a portion of that screen time to another activity (e.g. reading, yoga, taking a course)?
Here's my phone's new lock screen; I hope it'll help me be more mindful!

Good news corner 🌈
Science wins – A research team has developed a revolutionary (and inexpensive!) blood test for brain cancer that could help diagnose patients with even the deadliest forms of brain cancer much more quickly, potentially sparing them from invasive and high-risk surgical biopsies.
Quote of the week ✍️
"What we see depends mainly on what we look for". (John Lubbock)
As always, I welcome your insights or questions in the comments. You can also send me an email or book a call to talk about where you're at in life and where you'd like to go. Don't forget to share this with someone who may find it useful.
Enjoy your weekend and TTYS
