As I suggested in this week's post, let's work together to make 2024 our best year yet! I started the year with a very pleasant lunch and a stroll in one of my favorite spots at Lake Maggiore. I find the scenery here very relaxing and inspiring 😌

Moving onto a few things I've enjoyed this week.

Healthy selfishness

Psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman's advice on how to become “healthy selfish” (as distinct from “unhealthy selfish”). Healthy selfishness is correlated with higher levels of well-being, life satisfaction, and genuine motives for helping others. Kaufman actually came up with a Healthy Selfishness Scale. Some of the items on the scale include healthy boundaries, self-care, self-respect, giving yourself the permission to enjoy yourself, and advocating for your own needs.

SuperAgers

The health and longevity secrets of "superagers", i.e., people aged 80+ who have been able to retain the aerobic capacity and mental faculties equivalent to those who are decades younger. Nothing earth-shattering, but a good reminder of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. Also, while diet and exercise are clearly important, so are relationships, living with purpose, having a positive mindset and taking the time to enjoy the little things.

Tiny changes

A long list of tried and tested tiny tweaks to improve our lives from experts and readers alike. Some I actually do already, others I'd like to try out. I especially like number 2, 7 (quite similar to the Mahui habit), 27, 28, 33 (I was already planning on sharing more of what I read here), 40, 65, 85, and 93. What are your favorites?

Quote of the week ✍️

"I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring".  (David Bowie)
