Friday Musings—Quiet persistence

On remarkable women, money talks among friends, and the quiet persistence of waves.

What's going on

We started working on a new project at the company. The idea behind it is mine, so if it works it'll be a much needed self confidence boost.

The next few months will be crucial. I'll have to do new things, so I expect blunders and a steep learning curve. At the same time, I was really craving a new adventure.

What I'm watching

Moria - a Netflix series on Argentinian vedette Moria Casan. I knew nothing about this woman and my reason for picking this was that a) it was in Spanish; b) Griselda Siciliani, the main character of "Envidiosa" (one of my favorite series ever!) was part of the main cast. I'm glad I did though. Whether you like her or not, there's no doubt Moria is a remarkable woman.

Speaking about self confidence. In one of the scenes, they ask the main character, "¿A qué le tiene miedo?", what are you afraid of. Her answer: "Betraying myself. Not listening to myself. Not being consistent with myself. I would never forgive myself for that". A good reminder!

Money talks

Last week I shared an article on the insights (and perils) of keeping and sharing "money diaries" among couples. This week it's about learning to handle tricky money conversations among friends.

Discussing money issues honestly and openly should be easy and rather obvious, be it in a couple or a group of friends or a family. Instead it's a bit of a taboo, and the source of so many misunderstandings and hard feelings.

The steady persistence of waves

A US tourist captured the moment a large section of one of the most recognizable landmarks at the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare dramatically fell into the sea.

This brought me back to the many times I visited this beautiful corner of Ireland with my students.

The quiet strength of waves is also a reminder that persistence can lead to rather big changes over time.

Quote of the week

"Traveler, there is no path; the path is made by walking."  (Antonio Machado)
