Water joy

You may remember a while ago I wrote a post on the "blue mind" concept, i.e., the mildly meditative, soothing, and creative state of mind that people experience when they are in the presence of water. I just spent a few days at the lake and was reminded of how beneficial it is to spend time near a large body of water.
We can still enjoy the healing properties of water even if we don't live by the sea or a lake. Being mindful of the water running over our skin when we shower, pausing in front of a fountain, or listening to the sound of waves on our phones can all be ways to cultivate a blue mind.
To help us implement this concept in our daily lives, the founder of the blue mind concept, marine biologist and author Wallace J. Nichols, has just launched his annual 100 Days of Blue Mind Challenge on Instagram. You can check it out here. I probably won’t post every single day, but I’m going to dip in and out of the challenge as a way to remind myself to be more mindful. I dream of spending more time by the sea in the future, but for now, even just going for more walks along the river or paying attention to the water coming out of the tap as I wash the dishes would be a great start.
What are your favorite ways to experience a blue mind? Let me know in the comments or send me an email, and don't forget to share this with someone who may find it useful.
